Symphytum growing in the wild has a strong effect on the central nervous system and should be taken only in small amounts. There are about twenty varieties of comfrey, some of which are cultivated for fodder. One is Symphytum asperum or asperrimum, which is mainly grown in the Caucasus area, while Symphytum peregrinum is a Ukrainian variety. Symphytum orientate can be found in an area covering Armenia and running all the way to the north of Iran. These three varieties are valuable because of their leaves. While animals avoid the leaves of common comfrey, or Symphytum officinale, they enjoy these three kinds; pigs especially like them. The leaves of these three varieties of Symphytum, as well as of Siberian comfrey, are said to contain vitamin B12. The curative mucilage is present in the leaves, but in larger amounts in the roots. In the United States the leaves are even used in salads.

‘Just a minor cut on the foot, a little torn skin. Such a thing is bound to happen when working in the garden or fields. I’ll let the wound bleed freely and will be able to forget all about it.’ So I thought when I injured my left foot some time ago. Over the years such injuries had often happened and no further trouble had resulted. I naturally thought that it would be the same this time.

Within two days, however, the foot became inflamed and the first signs of blood poisoning could be detected. Two clay poultices made the symptoms disappear; but instead of continuing the treatment as I should have done, I did nothing further, being too busy to look after myself. From time to time, especially at night, I noticed a dull pain which seemed to go deeper and deeper. After about ten days it became so bad one night that I could hardly bear it. Because of neglecting to treat the infection, inflammation of the membrane covering the bone (periostitis) had evidently set in. Clay poultices no longer helped, or to be more specific, I could no longer tolerate the poultices. Soaking the foot in a herbal bath did nothing towards relieving the pain either.

After two terrible nights I decided to apply the Baunscheidt (revulsion) treatment (see pages 438-9) and after about two hours the pain had completely disappeared. The inflammation had been drawn to the surface and the cause of the pain eliminated. How much more simple is such a treatment than the allopathic method involving pain-killing drugs and surgery. Had I undergone allopathic treatment it would have meant weeks or even months in bed. Only someone who has experienced relief from pain through natural and reliable means can appreciate how wonderful it is to draw from nature’s storehouse the wide variety of remedies and treatments available to us.

However, if you do not see to it that you put your ‘internal house’, your body, in order, and do not take in sufficient calcium and silica, all external treatments will be of little use. And it is really quite easy to do something about it. The usual problem is lack of calcium and silica, but if a woman’s hair is too greasy, her hormone production is poor. Then it is important to treat the hormone glands, perhaps by taking a good homoeopathic preparation such as Ovarium 3x and regular sitz baths in order to assure good circulation. If the stagnation is bad, Aesculaforce will help rectify the trouble. Proceeding in this way, there will be an indirect beneficial influence on the hair. Moreover, if you follow this treatment you will not merely benefit your hair; the general condition of your health will improve, since many other body functions depend on the proper functioning of the glands.

If you make a determined effort to observe the seven rules given above and take care to put them into practice, you need have no fear of falling victim to cancer. Following this advice will benefit the general condition, even for those who may have inherited unfavourable tendencies and susceptibilities. It is true that it is not always easy today to lead a life that is in harmony with these rules, but when you consider the pain and trouble you can save yourself and those close to you, surely the effort would be worthwhile!

Even if someone already has cancer toxins in the blood, or perhaps even a tumour, he should not give up hope. A thorough change of life-style and diet can be a purposeful and decisive step towards a cure. Good natural remedies lend added support in this direction. Petasites preparations, for example Petaforce, have often reinforced the healing process.

It is, however, a different story if the liver is already affected. In this case, not only one battle but the whole fight is lost, and there is little point in continuing to bother the patient with diets and treatments. True, for some patients it has been possible to stabilise the condition even where the liver was affected, but where all other circumstances were favourable, although it must be said that such cases are rare exceptions.

For internal use, Nephrosolid is an excellent remedy for the kidneys, as it increases the secretion and expulsion of urine. Nephrosolid contains Solidago (goldenrod) and other herb extracts. Another effective remedy I like to prescribe is Imperarthritica, also a fresh herb extract. It contains, among other important ingredients, Petasites off., Polygonum avic, Betula and Viscum album. To remedy circulatory disorders and venous stagnation, Aesculaforce is indicated. This herbal complex contains horse chestnut, melilot (sweet clover), witch hazel and arnica, all excellent for the veins. Kelpasan is a good mineral supplement and increases the haemoglobin content at the same time. Echinaforce will relieve inflammatory conditions. These remedies, in combination with Petasites officinalis and Viscum album, will make great improvement possible, the latter helping considerably to regenerate the affected tissues.
